DVR and Latency Options
The DVR (Digital Video Recorder) feature allows you to preserve and manage your livestream content, offering viewers the ability to rewind the stream in real-time, while also enabling you to create cuts and decide whether to save the full stream or only selected cuts after streaming ends.
DVR Functionality Overview
When DVR is enabled, the following features are available:
- Live Rewind: Viewers can rewind the livestream while it is still in progress.
- Cut: You can cut parts of the video during livestream.
- Stop and Cut: After the stream has ended, you can either save the entire livestream or select and retain only specific cuts.
- Rewind Durations: Configurable rewind options allow for:
- Up to 1 hour of rewind
- Up to 4 hours of rewind
- Up to 12 hours of rewind
- Up to 24 hours of rewind
- Rewind back to the start of the livestream
When DVR is disabled, the stream is not saved, and the only available option is to stop the livestream without saving. The Cut and Publish, Stop and Cut, and Stop features will not be available. You can find more details here: Stop Without Saving Endpoint.
Rewind Compatibility with Latency Settings
Rewind functionality is directly impacted by the live channel latency configuration:
The available LatencyType options include:
Latency Type | Description |
---|---|
Normal Latency | Standard latency is suitable for most live streaming events, balancing video quality and delay. Up to 30 seconds behind real-time. |
Low Latency | This option reduces the delay to approximately 5-10 seconds, ideal for interactive events where faster viewer feedback is needed. |
Ultra-Low Latency | Ultra-low latency reduces the delay to less than 5 seconds, providing near real-time streaming. |
Rewind support based on latency settings is as follows:
Latency Setting | Live Rewind Support |
---|---|
Normal Latency | ✅ Supported |
Low Latency | ✅ Supported |
Ultra Low Latency | ❌ Not Supported |
If the live channel is configured for Ultra Low Latency, live rewind will be automatically disabled. Viewers can only watch the stream in real-time, but other DVR functionalities like cut, and stop and cut remain unchanged.
